The Feedback Feast: White Fang Takes Shape
Feb. 25, 2025
The draft is done! White Fang now lives outside my head, traveling through the minds of two writing groups, a local Artistic Director, a dramaturge, and a Gwich'in cultural consultant. I anxiously await feedback on my first iteration. The vision is clear to me - but how will it play out for others and I look forward to their feedback with the goal of making it the bet play it can be.
"Compelling." "Theatrical." "I want to see this."
These words appear in almost every piece of feedback, validating the story's raw power. But the consensus is clear: less telling, more showing. (More on that transformation in a future post.)
I picture myself as one of those fascinating deep-sea creatures that collect particles floating by, incorporating them into their being. Or maybe I'm cooking a complex stew, adding various spices, each addition shifting the whole in subtle ways. Whatever metaphor fits, the play is marinating.
And now, the news that changes everything: White Fang will have a staged reading in New York City on May 22nd! The theater is still TBD.
This announcement flips my calendar upside down. A new draft is needed by March 15th, which means Golem 2.0 reluctantly slides to the back burner.
Balancing projects is part of the perpetual juggle of the playwright's life. But honestly? Being in demand feels pretty damn good.
