The Playwright’s Dilemma: Rethinking “Lullaby for Winnie” -Part 1: When Feedback Resonates
March 18, 2025
The creative process is rarely straightforward, especially when it comes to playwriting. This week, I've scheduled myself to revisit "Lullaby for Winnie" afterreceiving feedback from several respected professionals in the field. It's been an interesting journey of self-reflection and artistic decision-making.
When Feedback Resonates
Most reviewers suggested only minor tweaks to the script—a reassuring sign that the play is nearly ready. But one comment has burrowed deep into my thoughts: that I reveal too much at the beginning, leaving fewer layers of the onion to unravel as the story progresses.
This observation has stuck with me, and I've been wrestling with it. Am I fixated on this particular feedback because it's genuinely valid, or because I respect the person who gave it and want their approval? When you're someone who inherently wants to please others—especially those whose opinions you value—it can be difficult to distinguish between these motivations.
